Time for a hiatus

This project will be put on pause as I need to return to another project that I wish to finish: my ongoing replay of the 1938 Detroit Tigers, using APBA Master Game.

Thank you for following along here! When this project resumes I will post as such in the Strat forum.

WP- Jeffcoat (3-1); LP- Trowbridge (1-3)

Ken Boyer singled home Don Blasingame with the winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth to cap a wild win. Each team authored five-run innings, and each team hit two home runs. Blasingame led off the ninth with a double and after a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk, Boyer laced a single into center field. Both starting pitchers--Bob Rush for Milwaukee and Marshall Bridges for St. Louis--gave up six earned runs.

PIT  001 000 010 = 2-8-0
WP- S. Jones (10-2); LP- Witt (2-2)

The red-hot Giants mashed their way to another big win. Even without the injured Willie Mays, the Giants bats were too much for Pirates pitching to overcome. Jim Davenport had four hits. The Giants teed off on Ron Blackburn for six runs in the fifth inning.

PHI  420 000 00x = 6-11-1
WP- Conley (4-3); LP- McDevitt (4-3)

The Phillies got to Los Angeles starter Danny McDevitt early and often, and the Dodgers bullpen needed to toss 6.2 innings of relief, which were highly successful. But the Phillies' damage had been done. A four-run first inning by the Phillies, which included two doubles and a triple, signaled that this wasn't McDevitt's night, and denied the Dodgers that elusive .500 mark.

Chicago 8, Cincinnati 3

CIN  010 010 100 = 3-5-1
CHI  011 200 31x = 8-13-0

Tony Taylor had three hits including a two-run homer, and the Cubs won despite their pitchers issuing eight walks. The Reds had drawn to within 4-3 in the seventh inning before the Cubs tacked on three insurance runs in their half of the frame. Only one of the eight free passes that the Reds received, scored. Lee Walls added a solo homer in the eighth inning for the Cubs.

With the top three hitters in the batting order going 1-for-15, Ken Boyer, Joe Cunningham, Gene Oliver, Hal Smith and Alex Grammas combined to go 11-for-19 with five RBI. Cunningham had two triples. Jackson cruised to his seventh victory, aided by double plays turned by his infield in four consecutive innings (fourth through seventh).

SF   000 021 130 = 7-7-0
PIT 000 020 000 = 2-8-1
WP- Miller (2-2); LP- Kline (2-5)

The first-place Giants kept rolling along behind a complete game from Stu Miller. It took five innings before the Giants offense got rolling but once it did, the Bucs had no answer as they trotted out four pitchers to no avail. Hot-hitting Willie Mays got the day off but it didn't matter as Willie Kirkland and Jackie Brandt each hit home runs.

In a battle of All-Star sluggers, the Cubs outlasted the Braves. Ernie Banks and Eddie Mathews each hit two home runs for Chicago and Milwaukee, respectively. Banks' second was a two-run shot that broke a 4-4 tie in the 10th inning. Mathews' second was a two-run homer that tied the game in the bottom of the ninth. Joe Adcock hit a solo homer in the 10th but it wasn't enough for the Braves.

The Cardinals used a six-run fifth inning to run away and hide from the Phillies. The Cards rapped out six hits in the frame, including three doubles, chasing starter Ruben Gomez. Gino Cimoli had four hts and two RBI. Bill White's three-run homer (4) in the first inning set the tone for the Cards as they tried to keep pace with first-place San Francisco.

Gene Freese and Wally Post hit home runs for Philadelphia. Roberts gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out eight.
