The Braves put this one away early, scoring seven runs in the first two innings. League-leading hitter Hank Aaron went 5-for-5 with five runs scored. Frank Torre chipped in with three hits and three RBI. Billy Bruton and Del Crandall each had three RBI as well. It was the worst loss of the season for the first-place Giants. Spot starter Bob Rush twirled a complete-game, five-hit shutout.

Danny Kravitz's pinch-hit RBI single with two out in the bottom of the ninth off Lindy McDaniel plated Don Hoak with the winning run. With two outs and nobody on, Hoak walked. Roman Mejias followed with a single, sending Hoak to third. Kravitz then delivered a ground ball up the middle to bring Hoak home. Pittsburgh's Harvey Haddix found himself in yet another pitching duel---this time with St. Louis' Larry Jackson.
