Larry Jackson twirled his second complete game of the season and the Cardinals won with tremendous production from their nos. 4-8 hitters. With the top three hitters in the batting order going 1-for-15, Ken Boyer, Joe Cunningham, Gene Oliver, Hal Smith and Alex Grammas combined to go 11-for-19 with five RBI. Cunningham had two triples. Jackson cruised to his seventh victory, aided by double plays turned by his infield in four consecutive innings (fourth through seventh).

John Antonelli carried a no-hitter until there was one out in the sixth inning in twirling his eighth complete game of the season as the Giants continued to roll. Willie Kirkland hit a two-run homer and the Giants won their second straight game without Willie Mays, who is day-to-day with a knee contusion.

The Phillies rallied from a 7-0 deficit to tie the game in the seventh inning, but the Dodgers prevailed on an RBI double from Maury Wills in the tenth frame. Gil Hodges hit two home runs for Los Angeles and registered five RBI.

Jerry Lynch hit a grand slam in a six-run fourth inning as the Reds demolished the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Gus Bell launched a three-run triple two innings later in a five-run uprising. Cubs starter Bob Anderson was strafed for nine runs (eight earned) in 3.1 innings. Frank Robinson added a two-run homer in the Cincinnati onslaught.
