The Giants scored six runs in the eighth inning, erasing a 7-4 deficit in defeating the Dodgers for a fifth straight time in as many days. Don Demeter's grand slam broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning, but the struggling Dodgers couldn't hang onto the lead. Wally Moon, Don Zimmer and Dick Gray also hit home runs for Los Angeles. The Giants banged out eight hits in the eighth inning.

Hank Aaron's two-out solo homer in the bottom of the 10th was the decisive blow. Pittsburgh's Harvey Haddix pitched eight shutout innings (one hit) but was replaced in the ninth by Roy Face. The Braves tied the game in the ninth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Johnny Logan. Aaron then victimized Face in the 10th.

Don Newcombe helped his own cause by getting three hits, including a solo homer. Vada Pinson had four hits as the Reds hung on after building an early 6-0 lead. The Phillies slammed four home runs, including two by struggling Wally Post.
