San Francisco 8, Milwaukee 5 (10 innings)
at Milwaukee, WI

SF    001 101 001 4 = 8-10-3
MIL 130 000 000 1 = 5-9-2
WP- G. Jones (4-2); LP- Trowbridge (1-1)

Orlando Cepeda smacked a game-tying, solo home run in the ninth inning, then added an RBI double in a 10th inning uprising as the Giants came from behind to beat the Braves. Leading off the ninth, Cepeda took Don McMahon deep over the left field wall. The Giants scored four runs in the tenth off Bob Trowbridge, and Cepeda was in the middle of that rally as well, driving in a run and scoring. The Braves jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning but their bats went mostly silent after that.

St. Louis 4, Pittsburgh 1
at Pittsburgh, PA

STL 000 004 000 = 4-10-0
PIT  001 000 000 = 1-8-1
WP- Mizell (6-2); LP- Friend (3-6)

The Cardinals scored four runs in the sixth inning, didn't score in any other inning, but it was enough to quell the slumping Pirates---losers of 16 of their past 22 games. Vinegar Bend Mizell tossed his third complete game of the year. Two of the Cardinals' runs were unearned, thanks to an error by right fielder Roman Mejias.

Chicago 5, Philadelphia 3
at Philadelphia, PA

CHI 011 021 000 = 5-11-1
PHI 000 002 010 = 3-6-0
WP- Hillman (6-0); SV- Elston (6); LP- Owens (5-3)

The Cubs snapped a four-game losing streak by jumping to a 5-0 lead by the sixth inning. Bob Hillman improved his record to 6-0 by hurling eight innings. Bobby Thomson had a double and a home run and scored twice for Chicago.

Cincinnati 2, Los Angeles 1 (11 innings)
at Cincinnati, OH

LA   100 000 000 00 = 1-6-1
CIN 000 100 000 01 = 2-9-1
WP- O'Toole (1-1); LP- Fowler (3-4)

Frank Robinson stroked a single to score Johnny Temple in the bottom of the 11th. The Dodgers' lone run came on a Charlie Neal home run in the first inning. The Reds tied the game in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Frank Thomas. Stan Williams lasted six innings for Los Angeles despite issuing six walks and the Reds having lots of traffic on the base paths. The game-winning sequence saw Temple and Vada Pinson leading off the 11th with singles. Jerry Lynch laid down a sacrifice, setting up Robinson's heroics.
