Sunday, May 24-- The St. Louis Cardinals used a balanced attack, as six players each got one RBI and each starting position player had at least one hit, in overwhelming the Chicago Cubs, 8-3 at Wrigley Field.
The Cardinals (24-15) completed a three-game sweep and kept the pressure on the first-place San Francisco Giants.
Bill White had three doubles and Joe Cunningham had four hits for St. Louis.
Vinegar Bend Mizell (4-2) pitched seven innings for the win, and he even got an RBI, on a sacrifice fly.
The Cubs (19-22) had finally gotten back to .500 when the Cards hit town. Not anymore.
The Cardinals smacked seven extra base hits off four Cubs pitchers. Starter Moe Drabowsky (2-4) took the loss.
Leading 3-1 after four innings, the Cardinals put the game away with a run in the fifth, three in the sixth and another in the seventh for an 8-1 cushion.
