Saturday, May 23-- Warren Spahn tossed his sixth complete game of the season, a four-hit shutout, and the Milwaukee Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-0, at Connie Mack Stadium.
The two-time defending league champ Braves (17-17) got back to .500 behind Spahn (4-6), who allowed just three runners as far as second base.
The Phillies (15-21), with their anemic offense (.234 team BA)---they've already been no-hit this season---were mostly helpless against the Braves' veteran left-hander.
Hank Aaron (three singles, .380) continued his torrid hitting. Aaron has 54 hits. Eddie Mathews had two RBI. The Braves led only 1-0 until the seventh, so Spahn had to be on top of his game.
Jim Owens (4-2) took the loss for Philadelphia.
Sparky Anderson had two of the Phillies' four hits, both singles.
